National Forests - There are several National Forests within a short drive of the Mansion. Take a seldom hiked trail to a crystal clear waterfall. Hike to a mountain top for a quiet picnic. A photographers paradise around every bend in the trail.
Whitewater Rafting- The CheoahRiver will soon provide limited days on what many consider the best whitewater river on the east coast. The nearby NantahalaRiver offers whitewater rafting for the entire family. The Ocoee, a few hours distant, provides a wilder ride on the 1996 Olympic whitewater course for the more adventurous.

The scenic route on US 64 from Franklin to Cashiers attracts many visitors each year, especially during the fall colors.
